FiveStar Gourmet Foods is investing $55 million in a new state-of-the-art production and distribution facility in Chicago, marking another major step in the company’s expansion across North America. The facility is scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2027 and will strengthen the company’s manufacturing capacity and distribution network.
Expanding Fresh Food Manufacturing
The Chicago campus will become FiveStar Gourmet Foods’ fifth production and distribution facility, strategically extending its national footprint. The investment is designed to enable the company to serve customers with greater speed, flexibility and production capacity as demand for fresh, ready-to-eat foods continues to evolve.
FiveStar, the company behind the Simply Fresh® brand, is positioning the new facility as a key component of its long-term manufacturing strategy. The campus will incorporate advanced manufacturing technologies, highly automated production systems and comprehensive food safety infrastructure.
The combination of automation and modern food production capabilities is expected to support the company’s ability to manufacture fresh products at scale while maintaining quality and safety standards.
Supporting Customers and Communities
The $55 million investment is also expected to create new employment opportunities and expand FiveStar’s production capabilities. The company plans to use the additional capacity to support a broad customer base that includes national retailers, convenience stores, foodservice operators, airlines and other strategic partners throughout North America.
By increasing its manufacturing presence in the Midwest, FiveStar can also strengthen distribution efficiency and improve its ability to respond to customers across multiple markets.
The Chicago investment comes as the company continues building what it describes as a North American fresh food manufacturing network, with each facility playing a strategic role in supporting national growth.
Long-Term Vision
For FiveStar Gourmet Foods founder and CEO Tal Shoshan, the project represents more than an expansion of physical capacity. He emphasized that the company’s family-owned and privately held structure allows it to make investments based on long-term objectives rather than short-term earnings pressures.
Shoshan said the company’s approach remains centered on quality, customer service and sustained growth after nearly three decades in business.
The Chicago facility is therefore expected to serve as both a manufacturing hub and a statement of FiveStar’s broader ambitions in the fresh food sector. With advanced technology, increased automation and expanded capacity, the $55 million project underscores the company’s commitment to reshaping fresh food manufacturing while creating value for customers, employees and the communities it serves.
